Here are some answers to frequently asked questions.

  • What cameras can I use?
    You can use any IP camera really, but the total wattage of the CAMERAS SHOULD NOT EXCEED 6W, otherwise your run-times will go down and deplete the battery during the winter season. Our X-Series cameras are always a good choice as several models have the features for off grid and have been tested and verified. If you require support for higher wattage cameras, let us know and we can see if a custom build option is possible.

  • How long does the battery last?
    It all depends, but you can usually get around 4 days of battery with no sun. Though, you would need several decent, sunny days thereafter to recharge the battery to full.

  • Which direction should I point my panel?
    Direction is critical to max solar output. Point it directly SOUTH. You can use the Sun Seeker mobile app to assist in direction.

  • What tilt angle should my panel be at?
    Solar tilt angle is critical to max solar output. It depends on your location, but in the Midwest about 15° during the summer and 35° during the winter. You can visit pvsolcast.com/optimaltilt to download a mobile app to determine the ideal angle and use the inclinometer to set the panel exactly.
